Still… DOOM 3 BFG vs. DOOM 3. Stupid consoles, LOL!
DOOM 3 BFG for PC is bullshit, but before I get down to it, here’s something I need to post, related to small table I’ve made:
* - Optional
** - Unless for some reason, ID rewrote half of their sound system, this is BS
*** - Shut up - it’s optional! There are 3 health systems in SIKKMOD.
Bethesda, Bethesda… you were doing so well with Skyrim, its Creation Kit and High-Resolution Texture packs and now, you’re back to being greedy…
If you’ve seen my post 2 weeks ago, you may know, I really wasn’t looking forward to DOOM 3 BFG being released on PC… and sadly I was kind of right about its price.
Doom 3 BFG will be available from October 16 in North America and October 19 in Europe, priced at $29.99 on PC and $39.99 on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. This re-mastered version includes enhanced visuals, the Resurrection of Evil DLC, “The Lost Mission“–seven new levels of content, 5.1 surround sound, achievement/trophy support, improved rendering and a new checkpoint save system.
First of all - 5.1 surround sound isn’t a new feature in BFG - it was already implement in original DOOM 3… and the rest is just playing of people’s lack of knowledge. That’s why I’ve made 4 new screenshots and combined them into 2 images - just to show, how small the difference between original DOOM 3 and BFG is.
Yes… I admit, if someone doesn’t own a copy of DOOM 3 - BFG is going to be a nice way to get it. Problem is, if you own a copy of DOOM 3 or even worse - a whole DOOM pack or Super ID Software Pack - like I do… then there is really no point in you buying it - ‘cause all you get is a game that has 7 new levels and achievements (only casual moron would care about checkpoint save system). Let’s repeat that:
7 new levels and a bunch of achievements for $30!
That’s a really high price for such amount of new content. The rest of “new features” is already in there, offered by SIKKMOD. Which brings me to my conclusion - BFG in digital distribution should be offered as a $30 pack… or a cheap optional upgrade for those, who already own DOOM 3. But, they are obviously not going to do that… and it pisses me off, since this is arrogant preying upon people’s lack of knowledge. And no, sadly I’m not wrong, here’s a few guys who commented on the news of DOOM 3 BFG:
I said I wouldn’t buy it because I still have doom 1, 2 and 3. But I think I’m going to anyways…Upgraded graphics and sound and a mounted flashlight. Too good to pass up.
^^Install SIKKMOD, numnut!
It’s taken 8 years, but finally getting that goddamn mounted flashlight is such a welcome feature.
It’s been there as a feature in SIKKMOD for years!
ohhhhhhh this might be a buy depends if you can co op.
Install LMS?
Seriously people - DO NOT BUY DOOM 3 BFG on PC, if you already own DOOM 3. Install god damn Sikkmod with texture packs, configure it and bang - you have similar features and far better graphics, than BFG is ever going to have and you saved yourself $30… and just to prove that BFGs graphics are no match for Sikkmod ones - I’ve added some special screenshots to the list.
You can get SIKKMOD at MODDB.com - http://www.moddb.com/mods/sikkmod.
And here’s a guide how to install it - http://www.overclock.net/t/1140722/guide-how-to-mod-doom-3-for-insane-graphics
And if you want a video comparison - here’s a link to one, I’ve made few months ago - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m2t9epQC9Ys&hd=1
Honestly now - I don’t get the idea of releasing BFG edition on PC. On consoles - yeah, maybe… but PC? PC gamers have a lot of mods. Yes, 7 new levels and some achievements, but honestly - we’ve seen plenty of developers, who did that for free… as a free or cheap upgrade? Yeah, sure - I won’t mind. But I really doubt that… and I’m not going to pay 25€ (price for D3+Ressurection of Evil) just to get a game with 7 new levels, worse graphics (comparing to modded DOOM) and a bunch of achievements.
U MAD, Zenimax? You should be :)
Obviously - BFG still isn’t out and it’s a work in progress… so things may change.
